Ingredients

  • ⅔ cup sesame seeds (white, black, or a mixture of both)

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

  • 20 oz sushi-grade tuna steaks (approximately 3-4 steaks, each about 1 inch thick)

Directions

  • Start by placing the sesame seeds on a plate, and mixing them together if you’re using both white and black varieties.
  • On a separate plate, combine the sesame oil and canola oil to make the oil mixture for brushing the tuna.
  • Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels, then dip or brush them with the oil mixture to coat them evenly.
  • Transfer the coated tuna to the plate with the sesame seeds, making sure both sides are coated with the seeds.
  • Preheat a frying pan over medium-high heat until it starts to smoke. Once hot, add the tuna steaks to the pan and cook for about 30 seconds on one side. Then, flip and cook for another 30 seconds on the other side.
  • Remove the seared tuna from the pan and use a sharp knife to cut it into bite-sized chunks. Arrange the Seared Sesame Tuna Bites on a serving platter and provide a bowl of soy sauce for dipping.
  • Optional: Serve the Seared Sesame Tuna Bites with a delectable Wasabi mayonnaise for an extra kick of flavor.

Ensure you use sushi-grade tuna for this recipe to enjoy the delicious raw interior safely. You can ask your fishmonger about sushi-grade options to ensure the highest quality for your guests.
